Seamless is establishing a Next Markets Advisory Group, and expressions of interest are now open for eligible members and supporters to help develop markets for recycled clothing textiles in Australia.

From building insulation and wall panels to stuffing for furniture and more, next markets are new uses for clothing textiles that can no longer be worn or reused. Developing these markets is essential to keeping more textiles in use, diverting clothing from landfill and supporting investment in Australian recycling and remanufacturing.

The group's purpose

The Next Markets Advisory Group will bring together expertise from across the clothing value chain to identify commercial opportunities, address barriers and help turn research and market intelligence into practical pilot projects and commercially viable, investment-ready next markets for recycled clothing textiles.

The Group will also consider research proposals and help identify pathways to build demand, attract investment and scale up the use of recycled clothing textiles in Australia.

Who can apply

Expressions of interest are open to executives and senior leaders from Seamless member and supporter organisations with relevant industry knowledge, technical expertise, commercial experience or research insights.

This could include leaders from clothing brands, clothing collection and sorting organisations, reuse operators, recyclers, remanufacturers, product developers and research organisations. Experience in developing or sourcing products, identifying buyers, building supply chains or bringing new products to market is also valuable.

You don't need to work directly in clothing textiles recycling. The priority is people who can contribute relevant expertise and collaborate with others across the value chain.

What’s required of group members

The group will have up to 12 members and will meet online every three months from February 2027. Meetings will run for up to two hours, with agendas and pre-reading provided by Seamless.

Members will contribute to discussions and work together to finalise deliverables by February 2028. Seamless will document meeting outcomes and provide terms of reference outlining the group's purpose and expected outcomes.

Applicants should be able to commit to the meetings, preparation and work required throughout this period.

Benefits of participating

This is an opportunity to apply your expertise to an important industry challenge, connect with leaders across the clothing value chain, and help develop commercially viable next markets for recycled clothing textiles.

Group members will contribute to practical solutions that can divert clothing from landfill, support next market demand and investment, and help enable Australia's circular clothing economy. Subject to agreement, members may also be announced publicly and have opportunities to share outcomes through Seamless content and events.
