From innovative techniques including reverse appliqué and laser cutting to material reuse and experimentation, where reclaimed, donated and deadstock materials are reworked into new garments, The Innovators runway highlighted a new wave of design thinking shaping the future of Australia’s clothing industry.

On 13 May 2026, four emerging designers showcased their work at The Innovators runway presented by the Fashion Design Studio (FDS) at TAFE NSW at AFC Australian Fashion Week.

It marked a major milestone for several Bachelor of Fashion Design graduates, who are defining the future of Australian fashion. Making their debut on one of Australia’s most prestigious fashion stages, each student’s collection told a powerful story of artistic craftsmanship, authenticity and sustainability led design.

OliverParry (@oliverrparryy) explored hereditary fashion, using natural dyeing techniques and transforming inherited fibre. His designs focuses on contrast, texture and reconstruction, using experimental treatments, repurposing techniques and innovative construction methods to challenge how garments are made and worn.

MARKO (@by___marko) dived into material storytelling, focusing on permanence and transformation through leather, copper and process driven design. The collection explored contrast through layered fabrication and surface manipulation, including techniques such as reverse appliqué and laser-cut detailing, alongside considered pattern efficiency to reduce waste.

ATTÈ (@madebyatte) experimented with a range of innovative techniques including laser-cut denim, cyanotype-dyed silks, and natural dyeing, using the body as both architecture and canvas.  Garments used construction techniques that prioritised fabric-led design and material reuse.

Luke Rubén (@lukeruben_) blended mythology and nature through storytelling, with sculptural and sustainability led silhouettes. His designs showcased highly experimental garment construction, combining latch-hooking, leather manipulation, natural dyeing and CLO3D development with hand-finishing techniques.

Together, they embody a new generation of designers, committed to their craft and a more thoughtful and circular fashion future.
